Japan hit by factor 8.9 earthquake in the northeast of Japan
, with the epicentre near Sendai, a centre known to be where Nikon manufacture Digital SLRs. Sony has also shut a number of factories according to Yahoo News, with a number of manufactures also affected.

Those following the news online and on TV will have seen the devastating effect of the tsunami as it affects the northeast of Japan. The earthquake is being referred to as a "Super-quake" being verified as a magnitude 8.9 quake, and one of the strongest earthquakes to have hit Japan. It struck at a depth of 24.3kms, located 130.3kms east of Sendai, in the Honshu area.

Japan hit by tsunami after massive earthquake - a number of nuclear power plants have been shut down due to the quake, and large areas are without water or electricity.

Google has launched Google Person Finder for those affected by the Japan Earthquake, the tool was used previously when natural disasters hit Haiti, Chile, and more recently Christchurch, when mobile and phone networks have been jammed with calls.
