Kestrel

A very well-times image of a kestrel coming in to land on a gate post has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade this week.

The image, titled 'Coming into land Male Common Kestrel' is by ePHOTOzine member Jamie MacArthur and here's why we chose the image to win the accolade:

This is a perfectly timed capture using a fast shutter speed to freeze the Kestrel in motion. Framing has been used well to ensure that the full width of the bird's wings is in the frame and also that there's plenty of breathing space around the subject. The background is nicely blurred but still makes it clear that there's a forest in the background thanks to the dark green tones.

The details captured in the bird's feathers really are exquisite, with the yellow of its beak and talons really drawing the eye. A really lovely image.

Photo of the Week winners currently receive a 64GB MicroSD card with SD adapter courtesy of Samsung. See all of the winners of the accolade in the POTW gallery
