German design with Chinese manufacturing. I hear the built quality is good and that it's a heavy lens. I like the fact that the lens has manual controls and that the reading on the aperture ring corresponds with markings of distance in meters and feet, like it did on the old manual lenses; It helps deciding what aperture value to choose for the desired background clarity, which in turn reduces trial shots (saving film on SLRs and battery on DSLRs, mirrorless cameras in this case).
