Today Kodak announce the EasyShare DX6440 zoom digital camera for 299.99 and say the new camera incorporates stunning picture quality, powerful features, a host of photographic creative controls and exceptional ease of operation. It includes a professional quality Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 4X optical zoom lens, a high-speed and low-light precision auto-focus system. The 4 megapixel resolution delivers sharp striking prints up to 508mm x 762mm - all with effortless operation that users have come to expect from Kodak. It will be available worldwide from August.

"The EasyShare DX6440 demonstrates how Kodak is using its deep and vast knowledge of imaging technology to deliver phenomenal picture quality, performance, and ease of use," said Chris Bowen, UK country manager for Kodak's Digital & Applied Imaging Division. "Its advanced photography features, new image processing technology, and intuitive controls set this camera apart from the crowd. Whether someone wants to take an artistic portrait or snap pictures of their kids playing on the beach, this versatile camera delivers."

The EasyShare DX6440 digital camera features aperture and shutter priority modes, as well as sport, night, portrait, landscape, close-up and automatic program modes. Its new high-speed, low-light precision auto-focus system combines rapid passive phase detection with highly accurate through the lens (TTL) contrast detection to precisely fine tune and sharply define a subject while providing focus lock in almost complete darkness. An impressive flash range of nearly 17 feet also aids low light shooting. In addition, the camera senses bright backlit subjects and can automatically trigger a fill flash to help ensure that a subject is appropriately illuminated.

The large maximum aperture of the f/2.2-13 Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 4X zoom lens is one benefit of close collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach, the German developer of high quality, technologically advanced lenses. Another is striking edge-to-edge brightness and sharpness across the image.

The camera exhibits exceptionally fast click-to-capture times ? as little as 0.4 seconds - reducing a common frustration among digital camera owners of significant lag between pressing the shutter and recording the picture.

With a large 1.8-inch high-resolution indoor/outdoor LCD screen, the Kodak EasyShare DX6440 camera is equipped for easy on-camera viewing in almost any picture-taking situation. The camera also incorporates Kodak's Colour Science algorithms, which are designed to match the award-winning colour balance and skin tones of Kodak film photography, and a 3.8X advanced digital zoom, which delivers noticeably sharper pictures than regular digital zoom.

The ability of the Kodak EasyShare system to help people share their digital pictures is outstanding. A press of the DX6440 camera's red-jewelled "Share" button allows a person to immediately select printing, e-mailing (with up to 32 on-camera e-mail addresses), and mark as favourite options for each picture. Additional features include a joystick control with easy-to-read menu options and the ability to record continuous digital video with audio. The camera's new album feature, when used in conjunction with Kodak EasyShare software v3.0, allows categorisation of pictures on the camera.

People can also quickly transfer their pictures to a connected computer with just one touch using the optional Kodak EasyShare camera dock 6000 59.99. The dock also provides a full Ni-MH battery charge in less than three hours. DX6440 digital camera owners can also receive all the benefits of a dock, plus water-resistant Kodak 4 x 6-inch photo prints in as little as 90 seconds, when using the Kodak EasyShare printer dock 6000 199.99. Both docks are now available.

Like the entire range of EasyShare cameras, the DX6440 includes Kodak EasyShare software, providing effortless digital picture transfer, organisation, editing, e-mailing, and printing. The software's exclusive One Touch to Better Pictures feature - which takes advantage of proprietary colour technologies developed by Kodak - helps people get vibrant, true-to-life prints from home inkjet printers, while reducing the trial, error and waste usually associated with home photo printing.

The award-winning Kodak EasyShare digital photography system - consisting of cameras, software, docks and printer docks, inkjet papers and accessories - makes it simple for anyone to take, organise, share, and print high quality digital pictures.
