Kodak Professional has unveiled plans for a nationwide summer road show targeting all image makers keen to develop business-building marketing and PR skills.

The new Work Smarter road show programme, hosted by Kodak working in association with the MPA and the BIPP, will comprise six one day events from Belfast to Bristol and will include seminars from three key speakers; two award-winning photographers and a leading PR practitioner and media expert.

Kodak will also run demonstrations of its latest digital imaging products including the much-vaunted Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n digital camera and the 8500 digital photo printer.

Said KPro's marketing manager Clare Bruce: "The Work Smarter road show is a brand new initiative and is the result of extensive planning with the MPA and the BIPP.
We have carefully targeted six hotel venues in Coventry, Warrington, Bristol, Belfast, Falkirk and Gatwick to ensure this programme will be accessible to all UK photographers eager to learn new business-building skills and techniques."

She added: "All professional photographers are talented and naturally creative - but in the photography business that's not enough. To be really efficient and profitable in the 21st century they need to embrace new digital technology and have a working knowledge of vital marketing and promotion techniques. They need to know how to work smarter - and this unique road show will point the way."

Work Smarter is free of charge to all MPA/BIPP/PPANI members and will cost £95 (including refreshments and lunch) for all other image makers wishing to attend a full day programme of events.

Said Colin Buck, MPA chief executive: "Work Smarter will be an unmissable business-building opportunity for UK photographers - and I urge all image makers who want to see their profits improved and their businesses run more efficiently, to book their places now."

He added: "The MPA and the BIPP are working together once again in conjunction with Kodak Professional to create this unique opportunity for our collective members to gain free entry to a road show that will provide entertaining, informative and inspirational speakers and create a platform for demonstrations of the very latest digital and traditional products."

Tony Freeman, BIPP president-elect added: "It is a simple fact that large numbers of photographers working in the UK today lack experience in marketing and PR techniques.
This programme will help them all to grow their businesses through the application of
sound disciplines and strategic planning. Work Smarter really is a 'Must-Do' for all photographers who want to be better businessmen and women."

Top freelance fashion photographer Chris Morris will cover marketing essentials in his "How to do it Better" address.
He said: "Too many photographers today don't really understand what their position is in the marketplace. They need to know where they are now, where they need to be in the future and where the hierarchy is. There is a hierarchy in every discipline. The big questions are; how do you get to the top, how difficult is it and how long does it take?
Delegates at my seminar will get to hear about my own successful marketing campaigns - but they will also get to hear about the hiccoughs along the way."

Aoibheann (pronounced Evanne) Hopkins, an award-winning portrait photographer who swapped a successful career as an international marketing director to live her dream and launch a photographic studio in a leafy Surrey village, will reveal the secrets of her rapid rise in the portraiture business.
Aoibheann's seminar: "How to get started: making it all click" will focus on her strategy for turning an ambition into a booming business.

Kevin Bentley, a former BBC journalist and now a director of a leading east Anglian PR agency, will advise photographers how to use the media to gain free publicity.
In his address: "PR-Your Secret Weapon" Bentley outlines the basic Do's' and Don'ts of the media relations world.
