Tom Mackie is described as one of the world's leading landscape photographers. His understanding of light, perspective and colour have all been key factors in this statement.
Originally an industrial and commercial photographer in Los Angeles, Tom had the opportunity to travel through the vast states of the west and this really lit his passion for landscapes.
After moving to the UK in 1985 to pursue a full-time career in landscape photography, Tom quickly became a well-known name in the field with calendars, prints and books under his belt.
Tom says he loves the display and low ISO capability of the Nikon D810. "I use Live View a lot for focusing, especially in low light. The Nikons' high ISO capability meant I could finally shoot auroras with ease, and ISO 3200 on both the D800 and the D810 is amazing. And then there are the controls. I don't like menus, and I really I don't like having to go into the menu to do things like lock up the mirror, as I had to on my old system. With Nikon DSLRs, everything is on the body where it should be. It's so much more intuitive."
