Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO

Venus Optics showcased a wide selection of lenses at Photokina and since the event, the lens company is slowly revealing costs and availability of some of the lenses. One such lens is the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra Macro APO which will be available from late May 2019 with an RRP, in the USA, of $449.

The 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro is the 2nd member of Laowa 2:1 macro line-up (following on from the 60mm f/2.8 2:1 macro lens) and this new 100mm lens can focus from 2:1 magnification to infinity. The Canon version of the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro lens is integrated with a CPU chip and aperture motor and photographers can now control the aperture/exposure through the camera itself as well as record EXIF data. A focus indicator will also be shown in the camera to assist focus and the lens has an internal focusing structure that will not extend when the focus is changed. 

A multi-layer coating has been applied to reduce lens flare/ghosting for increased contrast and CA is handled well. 

There are 12 elements in 10 groups optics and the bright f/2.8 aperture along with the circular aperture renders softly diffused bokeh and isolates the subject from its background.

The Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra-Macro APO lens is available in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sony FE mount.
