The Lapse HD/R iOS app combines timelapse and HDR photography. There are four different styles of HDR to choose from, the app uses tonemapping to create images which are then used to produce a time lapse video. The Lapse HD/R iOS app is available from the iTunes Store for £1.99.

Lapse HD/R iOS App Performance

When shooting it is essential you keep your camera steady, ideally by using a tripod. The app is really easy to use. There are three icons on the bottom of your screen. The settings cog lets you choose the resolution, seconds per frame, processing mode and allows you to add a soundtrack if you'd like.

The big red button starts off the recording and when complete, you can view your last video via the icon in the bottom left, but they are all saved into your photos app. When shooting, battery life goes down rather quickly and causes iOS devices to get quite warm.

Below are examples of each of the four available processing modes. To view them at their best we recommend hitting the Youtube link and switching to 1080p HD.

Lapse HD/R iOS App Verdict

If you're interested in time lapse photography, the Lapse HD/R iOS app may be of interest to you - it's unusual in that in uses HDR images to produce the videos. What is impressive is the speed in which that it does it. The app is able to create a HDR shot every three seconds and stitches together into a video as soon as you've finished recording. The app won't appeal to everyone, but deserves credit due to its speed and ease of use.
