An image of a squirrel leaping through the air has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade this week.

The photo, taken by ePz member SteveMackay, is titled 'Red Squirrel' and here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade:

This is a very well timed capture of a rare and beautiful red squirrel. It's at full stretch, leaping down from a tree, and the green shades of the blurred background really help to enhance its vivid orange colouring. 

The photographer has managed to isolate the squirrel in what was most likely quite a crowded environment, which is no mean feat. The shutter speed used is perfect, to freeze the squirrel mid-jump and create pin-sharp focus around its face, ears and paws.
