33% of Brits are looking to learn a new skill in 2017, a new survey* has revealed, and sitting high-up on the top ten hobbies people will be trying out this year is photography.

Photography was actually fourth on the list with fitness, pool and cooking taking the top three spots. Other popular new hobbies include learning french, knitting and learning to play the piano.

If you're one of these budding new photographers, we hope you've not given up on your new hobby already but if you have, you're not alone as 29% of those taking on a New Year hobby will have lost interest by the end of the month. Within 6 months, just 44% will still be keeping their new hobby up.

For those wanting to buck the trend, ePHOTOzine has plenty of photography tutorials, how-to guides and top tens to guide you along your way. These include a round-up of our must-read tutorials for those new to photographynew year's resolutions for photographers and 20 photography books to improve your skills

Other interesting facts from the survey revealed that those aged 18 - 25 are the most optimistic age group, with 58% hoping to learn and keep at a hobby over the year. However, they are actually the worst at keeping up with their new pastime; four out of five will have given up within six months, and almost half would class themselves as a quitter when it comes to trying new things.

When it comes to spending money on new hobbies, men are happy to fund their new ventures with up to £162, £35 more than women.
