Leica Camera Sells For Over £2.1 Million At Auction

A piece of Leica history broke an auction record last week, selling for over £2.1 million.

Leica Camera Sells For Over £2.1 Million At Auction: Leica 0-series no. 122

A unique, historical Leica camera sold at auction for an incredible €2.4 million (over £2.1 million) last week.

The Leica 0-series no. 122 camera was sold at the 32nd WestLicht Camera Auction in Vienna and it's part of a series of only 25 prototypes which were manufactured in 1923, two years before the famous German brand was launched, to test the market.

All parts including the paintwork are original, with the matching lens cover and the original folding finder. The camera also comes complete with a matching lens cover and the original folding finder, the unique film spool and take-up spool.

The camera was bought by a private collector from Asia and is believed to be the most expensive historic camera auctioned to date.

It's not the first rare camera to go up for auction this year, as a selection of Photosniper cameras grabbed the attention of the camera world back in February when they went under the hammer at Astons Auctioneers.
