Leica has discovered a compatibility problem with DNG files from its new Monochrom (Typ 246) and the 'Photos' App from Apple.

Basically, the DNG files are incompatible with Apple's 'Photos' App in Mac OS X Yosemite and as a result, the library crashes which could potentially lead to the loss of all existing image files already stored in the Apple Photos library.

In a notice regarding the problems, reported by the Red Dot Forum, Leica Camera said: "With the new Apple 'Photos' App, when loading Monochrom DNG files from the new Monochrom, the library will crash continuously on loading. This may cause the Apple Photos library to be destroyed. This means that pictures previously taken with any other camera will be lost. As such, Leica Camera does not recommend using the Apple ‘Photos’ App for DNG files from the new Monochrom (Typ 246) until further notice."

Leica and Apple are currently trying to find a solution to the problem and Lecia say it's likely that Apply will have resolved the issue in the next update for the 'Photos' app.

For now, Leica are recommending that Leica Monochrom owners use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC/6 for DNG files. JPEG files from the Leica Monochrom do not have any issues and work fine with all Apple applications.

Perhaps this should be nicknamed the 'cuckoo camera'? It throws out anything previously created by its owner Grin

You could argue that this is a bug but from Leica's point of view, maybe it is more of a 'feature'

I'd guess there isn't a big overlap in the Leica Monochrom / Apple pie chart.
