A captivating image of a leopard staring straight into the lens has been awarded the POTW accolade this week.

The image, taken by ePz member NickDale is titled 'Leopard eyeing camera from fork of tree' and here's why we thought it deserved to win:

This is a well-framed image that stands out due to the leopard looking straight into the camera, or as it may seem, straight at the viewer with its piercing stare. There are some lovely textures in this image, from the rough, cracked surface of the bark to the softer spotted fur of this magnificent predator.

The portrait orientation works really well to create a close crop on the animal, minimising distraction and leaving just a small triangle of bokeh from the surrounding canopy for a little added interest.

POTW winners currently receive a 64GB MicroSD memory card courtesy of Samsung. See all the images that have won the accolade in the POTW gallery
