Macphun Focus 2 Pro Performance:
Macphun Focus 2 Pro is designed to make it easier for users to give images an artistic twist or to draw attention to a particular part of a shot with the help of a few adjustment sliders and / or presets. The app is available in two version: Pro, on test here, or as a standard app. The Pro version can be used as a standalone product or as a plug-in for various popular pieces of editing software. Plus, it also works with other Macphun apps including Intensify Pro, Snapheal Pro and Photo Studio FX Pro. You'll also get extra editing options and improvements to the Bokeh simulation algorithms used.
When you open the app up, a screen greets you with an option for dragging and dropping an image from a chosen location or you can click the 'Load Photo' button found in the bottom left corner. Whichever method you use, images are loaded reasonably quickly and once open, the app brings you to the interface used for editing images.
Along the bottom of the interface you'll find preset options which are rather self-explanatory: crop, portrait, nature, architecture, macro and tilt-shift. There's also a custom option should you want more control over the editing and a button for sharing work on social networks such as Facebook.
The presets configure the options you'll see on the right of the interface, which you are free to tweak and change yourself if you so wish. It has to be said that the app does a fairly good job at configuring the options to suit the particular image you're editing and the preview updates very quickly when new edits are applied.
The sliders are easy to adjust and thanks to how quickly the preview responds to changes, you're not waiting around to see how the adjustments change the overall look of the image. It's also easy to see where the edit will be applied thanks to focus guides that appear on your image. The central section is where the effects won't be applied so this is where you want your viewer's attention to fall. The next sections are where the effects start to be applied in a feather fashion while the outer edges are where the changes are applied fully. The green anchor points can be used to adjust the shapes and you can twist the axis completely, if you so wish, to create a more individual look. To reset an individual slider, simply click on it or click the 'Reset' button to reset all of the sliders. There's also a button that allows you to show the before and after edit images.
For those who want more control, you can use the custom option which gives you masking tools so you can define what areas are in focus. The mask brush can be edited in size and its hardness can be adjusted should you wish to feather the effect you're applying.

Macphun Focus 2 Pro Value For Money:
The Standard version offers excellent value for money at just £3.99, which can make the jump to the Pro version at £28.99 seem steep however, it does offer more tools, RAW image support up to a 16-bit depth and it can work as a plug-in with software you already use as part of your workflow so spending the extra cash could be worth it if the extra tools and options make your editing tasks easier.
Macphun Focus 2 Pro Value Verdict:
This creative Mac app is easy to use, quick to respond and offers all of the basic tools users need to give images an artistic twist. The presets do a decent job at applying adjustments, saving you time should you wish to quickly move on to editing another photo. Overall, Macphun Focus 2 Pro is a fun and easy to use app that gives users a quick and effective way to add a little creative flair to their images without having to use complicated tools or functions.
