Manfrotto is proud to announce the launch of the new 055 collection of highly innovative, practical, precise and quick to use tripods.
Compared with standard leg-locking levers, the new Quick Power Lock system applies significantly increased locking power to the leg section cuffs, making the tripod much stiffer.
Higher locking power doesn’t mean that the leg levers are harder to use, in fact, the QPL system has been specifically designed to allow single-handed opening of all leg sections on the folded tripod. This cuts set-up time and ensures even greater ergonomic ease.
The new 055 supports an outstanding amount of gear: in any position, the guaranteed maximum payload is 9 kg (19.8lbs).
The new 055 tripod also has a vertical-horizontal column mechanism hidden inside the tripod’s top casting until it is needed. This saves space occupied by the shells in the previous model. Both the head and the camera are now closer to the central casting, making the tripod even more rigid and further improving image sharpness.
The new horizontal column mechanism combined with the 4 leg angles allows the new 055 to smoothly reach whatever camera position the photographer has in mind.
Furthermore, the bubble level can be rotated 360° so it can always be positioned to suit the user best, never falling inconveniently under a head locking lever.
Also announced was the X-Pro 3-way head. It is designed for photographers who want maximum precision from a compact size. The new Manfrotto head has been designed to ensure three essential aspects to both the amateur and the professional photographer: portability through retractable levers, precision guaranteed by friction controls and reliability thanks to its aluminum body.
The new X-Pro 3-way head has been designed to occupy as little space as possible, with retractable levers that can be extended when needed, but remain extremely compact when not in use. The X-PRO measures just 13cm x 13.5cm x 13.5cm (5.1” x 5.3” x 5.3”) when folded: nearly as tiny as a ball head.
Friction on the pan and tilt axes can be set to balance the weight of the camera even when the locking knobs are open, allowing fine framing adjustments to be made before the shot is locked down. Furthermore, the head has three small leveling bubbles that help the photographer set the shot even more precisely in-camera.
The head weighs just 1kg, but can carry up to 8kg (17.6lbs). This is possible thanks to the all-aluminum body, a metal known for both its strength and lightness.
The 055 tripod range will be available from 1 March 2014 and prices start at £199.95. The X-Pro 3-way head will also be available from 1 March priced at £114.95. For more information, take a look at the Manfrotto website
