Matterport has unveiled the latest version of its subscription-based 3D capture platform - Matterport Cloud 3.0.
As well been compatible with Matterport’s Flagship Pro2 camera, the company’s new cloud software platform also allows users of spherical lens cameras, such as the Ricoh Theta V, to turn panoramic and 360-degree imagery into fully immersive 3D models.
These new capabilities in 3D capture are made possible by the advancements in Matterport’s AI-powered image-processing technology, known as Cortex. Cortex is trained on Matterport’s world-leading dataset comprising billions of 3D data points and can construct 3D models from two-dimensional images captured with spherical lens cameras.
As well as being able to use 360-degree cameras, Matterport Cloud 3.0 brings a couple of updates that improve the software's usability including the core image editing environment (Workshop 3.0) having a more intuitive user interface and better organisation of features and controls.
Showcase 3.0 & SDK show dramatic increases in both speed and performance, especially when rendering large-scale 3D models and Matterport’s all-new version of its 3D capture app (in beta) now runs on both iPhone and iPad to seamlessly guide and manage the 3D scanning and uploading process across all compatible hardware devices. It includes user interface enhancements based on feedback from existing customers as well as many other speed and performance improvements.
In addition to these important advancements for Matterport Cloud 3.0, the company is committed to opening up the platform to the broader developer community. This will bring an entirely new suite of functionality to Matterport’s customers for both new and existing 3D spaces.
