Andreas Hutten on photographing birds and other wildlife with the 150-600mm lens.

Andreas Hutten sits for hours in a handmade hut hoping to spot birds and wildlife with the Tamron 150-600mm lens.
There is a small pond right in front of the hut which regularly attracts robins, blue tits and small mammals such as squirrels. Sometimes larger animals such as deer will stop by for a drink. The water makes the ideal backdrop for images, creating a wonderful mirrored effect.
Andreas has dug deep foundations for the hut, about a meter and a half into the ground to be exact, meaning that he looks out at almost ground level - perfect for intimate photos.
To help him capture exquisite images Andreas has been using the Tamron 150-600mm lens because the crop factor of 1.6 means that he can achieve a focal length of nearly 1000mm at the telephoto end of the lens, letting him fill the frame with even the smallest lens.
"More than anything else, I like the light weight of the SP 150-600mm G2. As an animal photographer, you’re on your feet for long periods," says Andreas. "The autofocus is very quick as well, which can be absolutely crucial in animal photos."
For the type of photography he produces, Andreas says, requires a lot of patience. "Many of my fans, and workshop participants as well, think at first that you can take photos like these while you’re taking your dog around the park. Not many of them realise that I can sometimes sit in my hut for twelve hours and still go home without the photo of the hawk that I was hoping for.", he explains.
