Michael Franzini - a photographer, writer, and Emmy-winning director - recently travelled over 30,000 miles across America to photograph and interview a diverse group of 100 teens in all 50 states.
He and his crew worked to identify the group of 100 young people who best represented a cross section of American teens. The group matches census data for gender, race and sexuality and encompasses every kind of teenager - jocks and band geeks, stoners and gamers, emo kids and goths, rural and city kids.
The book shows teens as they want to be seen. The location, wardrobe and poses were chosen by the subject but each photograph that appears in the book was painstakingly selected (sometimes from as many as 1000 images of the same person) because of what it says about the individual - and the generation.
The book is gorgeously put together with vibrant full-page photographs and accompanying narratives. In many cases, Michael divulges details behind the shoot and discusses how that particular shot was created.
The book is available from both Amazon at a price of £12.79. For excerpts and photos, please visit the 100 Young Americans website.
