| My-Picture MixPix photo tiles in Printed Products
My-Picture.co.uk offer a wide range of printed products for you to show off your images with. From wall canvases to home and lifestyle items as well as photo books, they offer affordable photo printing.
ePHOTOzine is taking a look at 3 of their products, to see how easy they are to create, and if the quality is as good as they claim it will be. The three products we chose to test are:
My-Picture.co.uk Premium Photo Cushion
My-Picture offers two kinds of cushion - Premium and Standard. The standard cushion is only available in a 40x40cm size and is made from a satin glossy material. There's also a white frame around the image. The premium photo cushion is hand-sewn and has a soft plush surface. The print on the front is full-surface, with no border. The rear of the cushion can be customised with a variety of colours.
We opted for a 30x30cm premium cushion, and we used a close-up image of a cat's face to see how well details are printed, but also because it makes for a super-cute cushion!
There are a few options that you can select once you've uploaded your image. To have a coloured back on the cushion or have your image on both sides, there's an extra charge. You can also adjust the size and whether you want the image in black and white or colour. There's also the ability to adjust the image on the cushion so that It'll look exactly how you want it to when it's delivered.
The web interface is clean and easy to use - it's simple to make all your adjustments and preview everything before going through to the payment page. My-Picture email you when you place the order, and you also get an email to let you know that the product has dispatched with tracking details. The parcel arrived via UPS and was super quick - only taking a couple of days to arrive.
My-Picture Premium Photo Cushion Hands-On Photos of Equipment
The cushion was protected with tissue paper for transit, as well as being encased in a sturdy plastic bag. The cushion itself is really well made, with a good quality cushion filler used. It feels super soft to the touch and considering that the fluffy surface of the cushion can't be the easiest to print on, a lot of the detail in the cat's fur has been maintained. It's a lovely product, but one thing we would say is that the sizing can be deceptive - 30x30cm is actually smaller than you'd think it is when the padding is in. It's worth considering ordering the next size up.

My-Picture.co.uk MIXPIX Photo Tiles
MIXPIX are My-Picture's latest products - 20x20cm photo tiles that attach to the wall with an adhesive hanger and can be removed and rearranged at any time. The idea is that you order several so that you can display them as a pattern on the wall. My-Picture says that they feature exceptional definition and colour sharpness.
Creating the photo tiles is easy - simply click the 'Upload more photos' button and select the photos you want to make into tiles. Like with the cushion, you can adjust the printed area of the image accordingly. Do this for each tile that you want to make - you can order up to 25 at once - and then proceed to the cart.
Delivery was speedy, with shipping the very next day. The tiles came wrapped in tissue paper, which is a nice touch. They're mostly made from foam, making them very lightweight, but care needs to be taken as they can get damaged easily on the edges if dropped. They come with sticky strips that allow you to fix them to any wall surface.

My-Picture says that you can remove and re-arrange the tiles as well - whether or not the strips will lose their stick over time remains to be seen. They are very easy to mount, simply peel and stick - and don't require any tools.
Picture quality is very good, with bright, vibrant colours and plenty of detail. The surface of the tiles is matt, so even in bright rooms, there shouldn't be any glare. We think they're a great idea to quickly and easily brighten any room without the hassle of buying frames and nailing things to the wall.

My-Picture.co.uk Primus Photobook
My-Picture offer a range of photobooks, including square, A4 portrait and A4 landscape, as well as a premium book which is larger at 44x30cm. There's a choice of papers - satin-finish matte or photo paper with a glossy finish.
There's not a lot of difference in pricing - you'll pay £5 more for the photo paper. more pages can be added if you need them, for a small fee. We created a Primus photo paper book, which retails for £18.
The process is fairly simple and easy - choose your style of book, choose the orientation and then you can get on with designing. Once in, you can upload your images into the creator, choose a page design and drag and drop them as required.
There are basic and advanced editing options, and an autofill option is also offered, which takes all the images you upload and designs the book for you.
The advanced editing option gives you much more flexibility with layouts and backgrounds and also allows you to add text boxes and scrapbook/sticker images to your design. Once you've used an image, a green circle appears on it so that you know it's already been included.
It takes a fair while to complete a photobook without using autofill, but it's worth it if you want to organise the images into specific days out or events. The editor is easy to use once you've got your head around it, even in the advanced mode, and you can save your progress and come back to it another time if you need to as well. It is an online editor - there's no downloadable software option.
Once you've finished designing your book you can place the order by clicking the green button in the top right of the screen. Creation and delivery of the book were very swift - only taking 2-3 working days to arrive. The book was delivered in a cardboard sleeve and protected by a thin foam wrapping.
My-Picture Primus photobook Hands-On Photos of Equipment
Overall, we were impressed with the thickness of the photo paper pages and the quality of the printing. Some of our larger images came out a little pixelated and we weren't warned that that quality might be a little low - some other online photobook creators will flag up images that are overstretched. It's always best to use the original, high-res images if you can - those downloaded from social media can often be lower quality.
The book is well finished, well made and pages lay relatively flat when open, meaning you don't have to worry too much about placing images close to the middle. For the price the quality of the main images we used on the cover and rear of the book is very good.
