When creating a calendar, you're first asked to choose a starting date for your calendar which means you don't have to start it in January if you don't want to and years up to 2017 can currently be selected.
For a photo book, you're asked to pick a theme, of which there are many, but samples are provided so you can see how the themes will look before making your choice.
You can also choose to create your own calendar / photo book or ask the site to create it for you. We chose the 'Design it myself' option which took us to the area you design your photo product in. This gives you more flexibility over where images will be placed so you can group certain shots together in photo books and have particular images for certain months in calendars.
To add photos (you can do this before you reach this page by creating an account and uploading images to an album) you need to click the Photos icon to bring up the options for adding photos. Photos are organised into albums which can be named and you can have as many albums as you like. Photos can be selected from your computer or if you upload images before reaching the design stage, you can also import shots from Facebook. The process is easy to follow and upload times will vary depending on if you choose to use the Fast or Top Quality uploader.
How many images you'll need to upload will depend on what page designs you choose to use. For example, if you just want one large shot on each of the pages of a calendar you'll need 13 images – 1 for the cover and 1 for each of the months. Layouts are selected via the menu found at the top of the window which is labelled clearly and if you hover over the icons a small box pops up to tell you what each of the options is for.
You can have up to twelve images on a page for calendars but obviously these will be smaller in size but we found these useful for shots that were slightly lower resolution (images taken with phones and put on facebook for example). Layouts are much more varied for Photo Books with space for up to 25 shots on a page and you can also have just text, if you so wish.
Once you're happy with the layout it's just a matter of clicking your images and dragging them into position. If you've uploaded pictures that are of a low resolution, you will be warned by a yellow triangle - this may be more likely if uploading from Facebook, for example. You can adjust the zoom to allow more / less of the image to fill the frame and there's also an option to rotate the shot. You know which images you've used in your design thanks to a tick appearing on them when viewed in the photo timeline.
Another option available for calendars is to include public holidays and your own events. It's easy but if you've loads of dates you want to add, it can be time consuming. To add a specific event you have to click on the date you want to bring up a text box where you can add and edit the style of the text you wish to add.
If you find you need more pages for your photo book there's an icon which you click to add another page. You select which design you wish to apply to it at this point as well. You can also select various colour options for the hard cover.
Even though there are a lot of layouts to pick from for both calendars and photo books the designs are static and can't be adjusted as they can be with some other companies who create photo gifts. This means that sometimes there's a lot of It's also rather annoying having to click back and forth between photos and pages. It would be more useful and easier to use if both were visible all of the time. It would be great if you could apply themes to individual pages rather than the whole product too.
You can save at any point if you run out of time and want to finish off later, the application also reminds you to save if you haven't done so after fifteen minutes. You can also preview your creation at any time via the preview button. This turns the application full screen so you can easily flip between pages and check the design. Once you're happy you have to click 'Add to cart' where you'll be asked if you'd like to preview your order (this is the last chance you'll get) or just add it straight to your cart.
In your shopping cart you can adjust the quantity of your order, remove unwanted products, select a gift wrapping option (£3.95 per item) and apply gift voucher codes. You'll also be able to check the final cost of your order (including P&P which starts at £2.99 for standard delivery and goes up to £3.99 if you'd like your order to delivered via 1st class).
MyMemory.com deliver worldwide and the estimated delivery time is 5-7 working days for Europe and 7-10 days for the rest of the world. If you live in the UK and Channel Islands you could have your order within 3-5 working days. Various card options as well as the choice to pay via amazon are available.
Both products were packaged well and are of excellent quality. From the date of order, the products landed in our mailbox around 10 days later which when you take the production and delivery times listed on the MyMemory.com website into account, is accurate.
The images look great with accurate colour reproduction and the protective cover found on the calendar is a nice touch. To mount the calendar to your wall there is a hole on each page for you to hang it from a nail.
