National Geographic have released a list of what they believe to be the best photos of 2016

Curated from 91 photographers, 107 stories and 2,290,225 photographs, the list features everything from an awesome capture of a lightning storm in Nebraska turning the sky purple to a mesmerising portrait of a 16-year-old giant panda in China. A photograph of an Orangutan captured at dizzying heights by Tim Laman is also featured in the 52-strong list and you may recognise the image as it recently won the Wildlife Photographer Of The Year 2016 title.

Wait, there is still 3 weeks left in the year. That means nobody in National Geographic is going to take a good picture in 3 weeks. Hey, this is not the car industry where they get a jump on the new year sometime as much as 8 months. The best of 2016 anything should show up in 2017.
