New 10.2 megapixel Nikon DSLR on the horizon?
No details other than the pixel count, a silhouetted image and a counter to the day of the announcement are available at the moment.

Translations of Japanese photography sites also reveal that one of the statements in the animation are that the new camera will, "condense high performance into a compact body."

The silhouetted image has been suitably blacked out by Nikon, but brightening the image reveals styling cues familiar in the D70s, such as the mode dial on the right-hand side. The camera in the image also has a built-in flash, which signifies this won't be a professional model.

UPDATE: A similar 'teaser' campaign has started on the Nikon UK website. Seconds to the announcement are being counted on the home page and the counter links to a different silhouetted image of the new camera.

A 10MP successor to the D70 makes complete sense.

I agree Matt... or even a 10Mp 'in between' model to replace the D50 and the 70s. Lets face it - there are 10Mp compacts out there!
I'm curious what sensor technology they used, I hope for CMOS as Canon uses, so the noise at higher ISO and compete with Canon in this aspect.
I don't believe it! I ordered a D70s on eBay the day before this teaser appeared: timing, as they say, is everything. The D70s is still alright isn't it? Please?
You won't regret it Brian. Megapixels aren't the be all and end all of the situation Smile)
D70 is a super camera and well worth investing in.
Thanks guys, phew!
