The controls / buttons / dials / and menus are the same on both cameras. These pictures shows the size difference between the Nikon 1 CMOS sensor (13.2 mm by 8.8 mm) and Micro Four Thirds sensor (17.3 x 13 mm), although the Nikon 1 sensor is partly obscured by the infra-red filter which is placed further away from the sensor to reduce the effect of any dust on there.

These type of cameras are done to death now. If you have a DSLR and a compact ask yourself why you need one of these.

I read a review on dpreview. They had a chance to speak with the head of Nikon's R&D department. Essentially they said that this camera was meant as a stepping stone from a compact to a DSLR, and that the majority of the mirrorless step-up market would opt for a system like the J1, where everything can be done on auto & the user can still achieve better shots than their compacts could. That being said, Sony seem to have a good handle on that market already with the likes of the NEX-C3. So it'll be interesting to see how this does.

I am very interested in purchasing either the VI or JI but I want to make sure I can use my current Nikon lens which I have been told is possible by purchasing an adaptor ring (not sure of cust). I have been using a Nikon50 as I am a rank amateur but do take good photos. What do you advise?
