We go hands-on with the new Nikon Coolpix P1000 and post sample photos from the new ultra zoom!
| Nikon Coolpix P1000 in Compact CamerasThe Nikon Coolpix P1000, takes the "ultra zoom" bridge camera to a whole new level - with a 125x optical zoom lens - the lens is equivalent to 24-3000mm, a whole 1000mm more than the Nikon Coolpix P900, with "only" 83x optical zoom lens. The P1000 features a 3.2inch screen, and high-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 2.36m dots.

Comments
I'm guessing in-camera processing may be partly to blame (assuming these are JPGs from the camera). What 'quality' was set for these? Be interesting to compare its RAW results.
Specs read well, but the resulting images here are unimpressive.
In return I may offer a hypothesis as to why the pictures look soft, apart from the atmospheric conditions (which obviously play a role here):
The diffraction limit (= theoretical resolution limit) for this combination of lens aperture, focal length, and sensor size is only 2 megapixel.
Given that the camera has a 16 megapixel sensor, it should come as no surprise that the pictures look a bit soft by necessity.
