Nikon has introduced a new tough camera to its all-weather line-up and it can capture 4k video, underwater, to depths of 30m without housing.
The W300 is the first tough camera Nikon's released since the AW130 back in 2015 and the W300 shares the same waterproof depths, drop tolerance and freezeproof temperature as the AW130.
Images are captured at 16MP via a bright f/2.8 lens that has a 5x optical zoom, which can be doubled with 10x Dynamic Fine Zoom, and there's a macro mode as well as support for GPS/GLONASS/QZS. Nikon’s impressive five-axis Hybrid Vibration Reduction system is built in and the camera's new Tool button will instantly display GPS, the number of steps taken, and altitude/depth or air pressure/water pressure readings on the monitor. There's also a new auto exposure lock so when light changes underwater, your video footage won't be spoilt. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in, as expected.
As for design, the W300 features a deep grip, making it easier to keep hold of underwater, a large rear monitor and accessories such as underwater flashes can be secured into the camera's tripod socket.
The Coolpix W300 will be available in four colours for £389.99 but availability is yet to be announced.
