Nikon Scene Recognition System And Advanced SRS

The Scene Recognition System (SRS) is designed to recognise the characteristics of a scene, including position, colour and tones prior to capture. 

Then, the camera will use information from the 3D Colour Matrix Meter II and compares that information to the camera's built-in image database, achieving accurate auto white balance, autofocus and auto exposure control.

Even things like changes of the subject's position within the viewfinder is recognised as image information, and this information can be used by the autofocus system in the form of 3D-tracking function, allowing greater priority to be given to the subject's position. 

The SRS can identify subjects by using colour information form the sensor to detect people and skin tones. It can use this information to hone in on the human face - which will be to most important part of a portrait shot. The SRS can also use distance information to determine where the subject is, too.
 

Advanced Scene Recognition System

New advanced cameras like the Nikon D4 DSLR use a newly developed system that can measure each scene's light properties, colour spectrum and brightness levels. This gives even more accurate auto exposure, autofocus, Actove D lighting and auto white balance results. 

Thanks to the 3D Colour Matrix Metering II's 91,000 pixel RGB sensor, the system is more accurate than ever in a broad range of lighting situations.
