Value For Money

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is available for £199.99 on Amazon, putting it firmly in the budget bracket. It does have some features which are not budget, such as the glass back and octa-core processor, but some that very much are such as the lack of 4K, and limited manual capability on the camera.

Phones of a similar price include:

  • Huawei P Smart 2019, £199, 6.21inch screen, 64GB storage, Dual AI camera, night mode
  • XIAOMI MI A1, £187, 5.5inch screen, 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, 2x12mp 2x optical zoom
  • Motorola One, £199, 5.9inch screen, 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, dual camera, 4K video

Nokia 5.1 Plus Verdict

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is capable of capturing vibrant images in HDR mode and isn't bad at taking selfies in natural light. However, for dedicated photographers, the device has a quite limited manual mode, with no ability to manually set the ISO or shutter speed of images.

It also lacks in the video department, not offering 4K video like a lot of its competitors. It is a budget smartphone, so these things can be forgiven to a certain extent, as the handset does offer a lot of storage and RAM capability for the price. If you are on a very tight budget and want a decent amount of storage and RAM for the money, then the phone may stand out to you.

It does offer a depth sensor, giving you the ability to shoot images with manufactured bokeh, and offers a decent HDR mode aswell.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus offers a good HDR mode, live bokeh blur and a decent amount of storage and RAM for a good price.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Pros

  • Good HDR mode
  • Fast and responsive
  • Live Bokeh mode
  • Decent storage / RAM for the price

Nokia 5.1 Plus Cons

  • No ability to manually change ISO / shutter speed
  • Blurring at the edges of the frame
  • No 4K video
