As part of Olympus' new M.Zuiko PRO lens range
, Olympus has announced the new M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO wide-angle zoom lens, with constant f/2.8 aperture, manual focus clutch mechanism, and dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof metal construction.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens feels extremely well built with a metal construction and reassuringly solid feeling grip for both the zoom ring and focus ring. The focus ring can be pulled back to reveal manual focus markings, making it easy to quickly switch between manual and auto focus.
The metal construction and weight of the lens gives the lens a feeling of quality, making it feel like a classic lens, it also provides slightly longer reach than the nearest competitor, the Panasonic Lumix X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 lens. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens is the equivalent of 24-80mm in 35mm terms, and comes with a lens hood with lock so that it doesn't accidentally come off.
