Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 Black

Olympus announced the new Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 - a whole new line of PEN Micro Four Thirds cameras, it will be available in Autumn this year, and is the smallest Olympus PEN yet. The camera has a large 3 inch touch screen, and lacks the mode dial of the E-PL3 and E-P3. The compact size means that the flash is not built in, but instead, the camera comes with a flash that attaches to the top of the camera.

On the top you can see where Olympus has simplified things by removing the mode dial, and instead there is simply stereo microphones, speaker, flash hot shoe, shutter release and power button.

On the this really early pre-production model (they did not have any functioning Pen Mini's on display), the back of the camera looks a little un-finished, and the quality is quite likely to improve on the production version. The back features the large 3inch touch screen, a limited number of buttons, and the 4-way scoll wheel and middle OK button.

The external pop up flash is very similar in design to the flash seen on the Sony NEX-3/5 and fits neatly on top of the camera without adding much size or weight. However, with the improved 12 megapixel sensor with improved noise reduction, it's possible that the lack of flash may be much less noticeable on this PEN camera.

The Olympus Pen Mini E-PM1 really is impressively small, and rather good looking.
