Android smartphone creators OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be arriving on 16 May 2018 and along with the launch announcement, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has shared some of the design elements and influences behind the new camera phone.
In a blog post, published in the OnePlus forum, Pete said the new OnePlus 6 will have a glass design and still feature the signature horizon line and curve shape seen in other OnePlus smartphones as they are an important element of the company's design ethic.
The OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one for the OnePlus 6 smartphone which the Chinese company want to have a 'premium feel'.
In the blog post, Pete has confirmed that the glass back on the OnePlus 6 contains five printed layers of Nanotech Coating, a first in the smartphone industry, as most smartphones with glass backs use just 3 Nanotech Coatings.
"We applied 5 layers of Nanotech Coating instead of 3, even though the degree of separation between each layer is extremely subtle and tough to discern. However, the additional layers give the back of the device a stronger impression of depth that our most demanding users will surely appreciate," says Pete.
There is a photo of the new OnePlus 6 on the blog post but it only shows a corner of the device so there's not much to go on. However, it does show a device with a purple tone to it so perhaps this will be one of the colour options available. The other image, shown above, is a sketch of phone designs.
Spec-wise, rumours have been circulating for some time but as of yet, OnePlus have stayed pretty quiet about what to expect from the new smartphone. However, it seems sample images did, however, appear on the Chinese blogging site Weibo earlier this month which most of the users believe to have been captured with the OnePlus 6.
If you want to be at the launch of the new smartphone in London, you can be. To join the OnePlus team, and us, at the launch, you need to purchase a ticket which are priced at £30 (early bird tickets are available until Fri 27 April for £16). OnePlus will also be live streaming the launch which you can subscribe to.
