OnePlus 7T

Value For Money

The OnePlus 7T can be purchased for around £549 (8GB/128GB) which puts it in between budget smartphones and premium flagships. Alternatives ePHOTOzine has reviewed include the OnePlus 7 Pro (£698), Huawei P30 (£699), Honor 20 Pro (£549) and Google Pixel 3a XL (£469). The OnePlus 6 is available for around £519 and there's the OnePlus 6T at £529. More expensive options include the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus at £899

OnePlus 7T Verdict

The OnePlus 7T has a line-up of impressive specs and the display, in particular, is as good in real life as it is on paper. The rear camera set-up is also good but when weather conditions aren't perfect, it can let you down with detail falloff, fringing and noise causing issues. However, for those who simply share images to social media, where people won't be looking too close, you'll have no issues whatever the weather. Portraits/selfies are good, as is the bokeh introduced with no major issues with clipping. Video is captured well, too (in good light). The night mode is impressive, adding detail where it's needed, and the macro mode is useful once you get to grips with it. As for the zoom, 2x optical zoom is fine but stay away from digital zoom as it's terrible.

The design of the OnePlus 7T is modern and the slim bezels, rounded edges and glass construction give it a more premium feel. Whether you like the design of the circular camera unit will be down to personal taste but aesthetics don't change how the camera works underneath.

Overall, it's a great smartphone but does it 'wow' us? Not really but then again, it takes quite a bit of innovation to do that nowadays. What we will say, though, is if you're looking for a smartphone that gives you some of the features you would expect to see on flagship smartphones at a lower cost, the OnePlus 7T is worth considering, especially thanks to the high speed of the device.

OnePlus 7T Pros

  • Great screen
  • Price
  • Good image quality
  • High-speed device
  • Impressive night mode

OnePlus 7T Cons

  • No wireless charging
  • No headphone socket
  • Digital zoom is terrible
