OnePlus Nord 2 5G Sample Photos

Sample Photos - Generally, the main rear camera performs well, particularly when light levels are good, and you get a good level of detail in images with accurate colours and even exposure. When the sun is high in the sky and beating down on us as it has been these last few days, the ultra-wide-angle camera can struggle with flare but not all of the time. The Auto HDR and AI modes can help balance scenes giving good dynamic range and allowing detail to stand out but on occasion, they did hinder rather than help as they overcooked colours and/or over-processed the scene. Greens can be particularly toxic and building detail can look overly sharp and spoil the shot as a result or, at the opposite end of the scale, detail can become a bit mushy (particularly when photographing landscapes). Having said that, this didn't happen every time we hit the shutter button and we did like the slightly exaggerated look HDR gives shots when capturing neon shop signs, for example, so sometimes the overcooking did work. But, overall, the rear camera performed well.

We have to praise the portrait mode as even when using it in other scenes where we wanted to introduce bokeh, it worked well with no clipping issues and lovely bokeh just where it needed to be. The improved night mode is also excellent with beautiful tones, good levels of sharpness and great detail in all of the shots captured when light levels dropped. The bokeh in the night shots of the bulbs is particularly lovely, too.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Lens test images

Lens Performance - We bang the drum of wanting longer optical zoom to be something we'd like to see on all smartphones as its quality is just, well, better. On the Nord 2 5G, the wide and ultra-wide lenses produce decent shots but detail starts to fall off when using the 2X option. Having said that, the shots are still useable but we'd recommend moving your feet rather than using the 5X zoom as it's pretty obvious that detail is lost when you view the images large. For uploading to social media, you might get away with it.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Digital filters

Digital Filters - Various filters are built-in which can be applied both during capture and after in the photos app. A selection of what's available are shown above. Some look a little similar but we particularly like the mono filter.

The panorama mode is easy to use and stitches well so the smartphone produces a great image quickly and pleasingly. Colours pop, perhaps a little too much in regards to the green, but plenty of detail is captured nonetheless.

Video Sample:

Video - Video is captured at 4K and 1080p with various frame rates available. There's also a slow-motion mode built-in and a video editor is built-in. Video captured with the Nord 2 5G is smooth, with panning not causing any issues and colours are accurate.
