Stuart Fawcett went along to the opening night of the 'Opera By The River' Exhibition, showcasing images by Edmond Terakopian captured with the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II.
| Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II in EventsThe OM-D E-M10 Mark II is Olympus' latest camera and before its release to the masses, one of the lucky people to put it to the test was Edmond Terakopian whose images, shot on the E-M5 Mark II (which was new when Edmond started the project) and E-M1, are now on display in a brand-new open-air exhibition titled 'Opera by the River' (Riverside Walkway, South Bank, London). ePHOTOzine member Stuart Fawcett went along to the opening night to take a closer look at his work.
Edmond Terakopian's free exhibition can be found on the Southbank next to The National Theatre building until, and including, 11 October 2015 and it focuses on the time Edmond spent with the cast, musicians and producers of the opera Albert Herring.
He spent over 7 months with the Royal College of Music crew of the opera from the initial casting, through to rehearsals and final production. This was a real commitment of time and stopped him from taking on other work. However, I'm sure Edmond made himself as at one with the Opera's production staff as much as he did with everyone that came along to see the opening night of his exhibition.
Above: Here he is with William Cheung on the left and one of the staff photographers from the evening standard on the right.
The opera was put on by the Royal College of Music and the photographs documented the entire process of staging an opera. The photographs also feature a super wide variety of styles from punchy colours to insightful black and white images, a little bit for everyone I should think.
I've included a montage of images from the event below (please do excuse the quality of my images as the light was failing fast).
The actual images in the exhibition do show that the OM-D is indeed a very capable camera in the right hands and print size is hardly going to be an issue for professional exhibitions, I was honestly very impressed.
The final part of the launch evening was up on 'The Deck', a private area of The National Theatre where more of the exhibition images were displayed. Edmond gave a speech on how he came to do this project and thanked those that helped. You can actually see the transcript in full on Edmond's website.
Musicians and singers also performed part of the Albert Herring opera at the event which was lovely to see.
