Panasonic Lumix TZ90 (ZS70) in Compact Cameras

Lumix TZ90 (ZS70)

Panasonic has introduced a new travel zoom to its range of compact cameras that updates the TZ80 and it will be available from June.

The Lumix TZ90 shares the same 30x optical zoom as its predecessor but the sensor has been improved and it also has a 3.0-inch, 1,040k-dot touch-sensitive tilting screen. The ultra-wide-angle 24mm LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens extends to 720mm at the telephoto end and power optical image stabilisation is built in.

Panasonic's 4K Photo function is available on the TZ90 so you can extract 8Mp stills, capture footage at 30fps and make use of Post Focus so you can change the point of focus after shooting. Focus stacking is also available so you can change the depth of field after shooting by combining multiple images.

The TZ90 boasts a 0.1 second AF speed and you can also employ burst shooting at 10 (AF-S) fps or 5 (AF-C) fps. A range of AF functions are available and for those worried about manual focusing, there’s lots of help on board for that too, including Focus Peaking and MF assist.

For selfie fans, the camera will automatically select self-shot mode when the screen is flipped and there's a new 4K Selfie mode as well as a Panorama Selfie selfie mode. Other portrait capture features include background control and beauty functions plus, you can trigger the camera by posing in a certain way.

As well as the rear monitor, there’s also a 0.2-inch, 1,166k-dot EVF (Electronic View Finder) with an eye sensor which switches the EVF on automatically. While using the EVF you can also continue to use the screen to set AF point usTouchPad Pad operation.

Those wanting a little more control over how their final image looks there is a range of manual and semi-automatic modes (PASM) available along with RAW shooting. Use the control ring around the TZ90’s lens to adjust settings such as aperture, while the control dial on the rear of the camera is also on hand to change other settings.

As well as photos, the TZ90 can capture high-resolution QFHD 4K videos in 3840x2160 at frame rates up to 30p. Various video functions are available which includes tilt-correction, 5-axis image stabilisation, 4K Live Cropping to pan and adjust the composition and the ability to capture video at 120 fps / 100 fps in full HD to create a slow-motion effect.

Macro fans will enjoy using the camera's 3cm macro function and as you'd expect n a compact camera, various creative modes are built in along with Wi-Fi.

The Lumix DC-TZ90 will be available from June for £399.

Check out the full specs of the new camera below and you can also compare the TZ90 with the TZ80 with the help of our comparison table. We'll also find out if it can knock the TZ80 off the number 1 spot of our top pocket travel zoom cameras list when we put it to the test.
