Will be interesting to see it against the Olympus 45mm, but I feel it's a bit of a strange focal length as I can't imagine it being that much better, and a lot of people would have already bought the Olympus.

I feel they should have released it as a 40mm or 50mm, as at least it will have filled a gap in the range, right now it's going to have to go against the Panasonic 42.5mm F1.2, Panasonic 45mm f2.8 and the Olympus 45mm 1.8 and that's some tough competition!

Interestingly it does not look much like any other Panasonic lens, it looks very similar to the Olympus 45mm.

It also comes with a hood in the box Smile

How does the hood attach Josh, looks like it has a removable collar just like the Olympus 45mm.

This lens has build in stabilization, a welcome addition for users of camera bodies without stabilization. My educated guess is that this new Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7 is slightly sharper and has better contrast than the Olympus 45mm f/1.8. CA and vignetting seem to be worse with the Panasonic. However, those defects are easily corrected in post processing. I'll go for the extra sharpness and better contrast wide open and of course for the build in optical image stabilization. This lens seems like a winner to me.
