Paris Musées (14 public museums found in Paris), has made over 100,000 digital reproductions of artworks, which includes thousands of photographs, free to use without restrictions.

The photographs can be viewed and downloaded in high definition from a new online portal and they include work by famous French photographers such as Atget, Blancard, Marville and Carjat.

As the photographs are in the public domain under license CC0 (Creative Commons Zero), they can be used without any technical, legal or financial restrictions, and this goes for commercial use, too.

Users can download a file which, as well as containing a high definition image (300 dpi - 3000 pixels) also contains a file about the image and a guide for using and citing the source/information about the photo.

The collection of artwork and photos has been released into the public domain to help increase the visibility of works by French artists and to make it easier for people to access art and culture.

Visit the online portal to see the full collection and if you're fluent in French, you can also read the museum's announcement on the project.
