Peak Design Slide Lite Mirrorless Camera Strap Review

The Peak Design Slide Lite is a luxury camera strap designed for use with mirrorless cameras. It can be worn in 3 different ways and features quick adjusters, an anchor link system and optional shoulder grip. It comes with a variety of accessories giving you different ways to attach it to your camera. It's available in ash grey and black. Here, we take a look at how it performs. 

Peak Design Slide Lite Features

The Slide Lite is a slimmer version of the Slide strap, which is designed for more hefty DSLRs. The Lite version we have here is suitable for use with smaller DSLRs and mirrorless systems. 

For a strap, it contains quite a few innovative features that take it to the next level for such a humble accessory. It's a luxury strap for a start, made from smooth, thick, seatbelt style material. Peak Design say this enable the strap to glide around your body easily, for quick access to gear. 

One side of the middle of the strap has a grippy rubberised pattern, to help to hold the strap in place when rested on the shoulder. This can be flipped over to the top if it's not wanted. 

Each end of the strap has a 'quick adjuster' to help you get the fit you want, quickly. Simply hook your finger under the silver clasp and pull/push as necessary to achieve the desired length of strap and positioning. 

Peak design uses a patented system to attach its straps to your kit. Anchor mounts, which are small but robust plastic disks are securely wrapped around the strap holders on the camera. The ends of the strap have specially designed clips, which allow you to unclip the camera easily, for different situations. It also allows you to attach anchor mounts to a variety of different items of your kit, so you can use the same strap and just quickly clip it onto the equipment you're using that day. Simple!

The Slide Lite can be worn 3 different ways; across the body, as a neck strap or as a shoulder strap. 

The strap comes very smartly presented in a cardboard sleeve and with it you will receive a pouch containing 2 extra anchor points, tripod mount and an Alun key for making sure the tripod mount is securely tightened. 

Peak Design say that the anchor points can withstand up to 90kg of force before snapping and that they should be replaced if the red inner core becomes visible.

Peak Design Slide Lite Handling & Performance

We were very impressed with the quality of the strap - with the ash colour, the strap looks smart and should compliment most outfits well. Setup of the strap with the anchor points system is simple - you just need to thread the anchor point through itself on your camera's strap connector/s or by using the included tripod mount to give yourself the ability to connect the strap, which securely slides over the circular anchor point with a reassuring click, and you are ready to shoot. 

The anchor points can be fiddly to undo from the strap until you get used to them - you have to press down firmly and slide them backwards to free the strap, to make sure it doesn't happen accidentally on the move. The anchor clip points on the strap have a plastic outer but the innards are made from metal - so there's little chance of them breaking due to wear and tear. 

We wore the strap in all its 3 suggested options. The quick adjustment sliders made it easy to wear as a cross body strap - you can easily tighten or loosen it with a simple pull. The gliding nature made it a breeze to grab the camera when a photo opportunity presented itself. 

As a shoulder strap, the grip worked wonders in keeping the strap on the shoulder, helping you feel that your kit is safe. As a neck strap, the slide lite is great when worn over the top of a collar or other clothing, with the grip keeping it in place. However when worn on bare skin, a little padding would have been nice, especially when you have heavier kit. 

Everything feels well made and the finishing details like the tan leather labels on this colour model are a very nice, designer-like touch. 
 

Value For Money

The Peak Design Slide Lite is available for £49.99 from 3 Legged Thing in the UK. This is a premium price for a strap but you do get a luxury product, with a lifetime warranty for peace of mind. 

If you want something more secure for an around the body fit, the BlackRapid Curve Sling features a quick draw ability and is available for £78. However it doesn't have a warranty. 

If you don't have a big budget but still want a stylish alternative strap, the Stroppa rope strap is a neat choice. Available for £30, they are no frills and aren't length adjustable.

The Peak Design Slide Lite is a versatile and well-equipped camera strap that offers lots more than the average strap.
