Pentax Q Lens Overview

The 01 standard prime lens has a focal length equivalent to 47mm in the 35mm format. It has a natural perspective similar to that of the human eye, so it can be used for many different subjects, including landscape and portraiture. It has a maximum aperture of f/1.9, which is ideal for low light performance and throwing the background out of focus.

The 03 ultra wide angle fish-eye lens has a 35mm equivalent of 17.5mm, a fixed aperture of f/5.6, manual focus, and a 160º angle of view. A fish-eye lens lets you capture unique, eye-catching images with an exaggerated perspective, distorted subjects and a pan-focus effect that captures every element in the image field in sharp focus. It's possible to focus on subjects extremely close to the lens.

The 04 wide toy lens has is a 35mm equivalent of 35mm and has a fixed aperture of f/7.1, as well as manual focus. The lens has been designed to retain various aberrations to produced images similar to those taken on a toy camera.

The 05 telephoto toy lens has is a 35mm equivalent of 100mm and has a fixed aperture of f/8, and manual focus. As with the 04 wide lens, it has been designed to retain various aberrations to produced images similar to those taken on a toy camera. The 05 telephoto toy lens is the smallest and lightest of the lenses available for the Pentax Q.

The 06 telephoto zoom lens has a 35mm equipment of 83-249mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. It has a retractable design, so it is compact and lightweight. Its focal range is ideal for portraits and sports.

Pentax Q Lens Verdict

If you want high picture quality you will certainly want to purchase the standard prime, standard zoom and telephoto zoom lenses, altogether this gives you a 35mm focal range of 27.5-249mm. All three lenses feature a 40.5mm filter thread which will make changing filters between the three lenses easy. They also share the same size lens caps, and feature metal bayonets.

The toy lenses and fish-eye all require you to use manual focus, so this may require you to use the Q10's MF assist and focus peaking features to get the best results. Unfortunately these three lenses do not feature a filter thread, so it's not possible to attach anything to the front of the lenses. The bayonet on these lenses is plastic.

The fish-eye lens is ideal for unique perspectives, particularly when shooting portraits. It was also effective for shooting macro shots due to its short minimum focusing distance. The wide and telephoto lens both retain various aberrations to produced images similar to those taken on a toy camera and are available for reasonably low prices.

What's great about the Q10 and all of the lenses are their sizes, they all easily fit in a small camera bag - you could also carry them in a jacket with large pockets.
