Check Out Pentax's HD D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 Lens.

Pentax have released a new range of HD D FA lenses, designed to work perfectly with the new Pentax K-1 camera. This Full frame camera demands high performing lenses to get the best out of its awesome capabilities. Here, we take a closer look at the HD Pentax-D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR lens. 

This lens is reassuringly chunky and has a wide zoom ring for ease of use. It has the latest HD multi-coating plus an SP layer, that repels grease, dirt and water, keeping the exposed lens element as clear as possible. 

The diaphragm of the lens is constructed of 9 rounded blades, and this helps to improve the bokeh of the lens, keeping it nice and smooth. The lens is also weather resistant, making it ideal for use in adverse weather conditions. 

The lens can also be used on previous cropped sensor cameras, when used with the Pentax K10D or newer AF can still be operated, cameras older than this can be used with the lens but it will be manual focus only. 

How does the 15-30mm f/2.8 lens perform?

The lens has good sharpness throughout the zoom range, and the degree of balance achieved was described as 'remarkable' in our recent review of the lens. The new HD coating of the lens works very well, keeping flare to a minimum. For a lens with quite a bulbous front element, this is really good. 

With a closest focusing distance of just 0.28m, the lens is ideal for shooting closer subjects as well as those far away, making it a really versatile optic. 

We came to the conclusion that the lens is a good investment whether you want to shoot sweeping vistas or expansive interiors.
