Industry News

Europe's leading specialist photographic retailer, Jessops plc, is to strengthen its board with the appointment of Peter Samwell as Business Development Director.

Samwell is a well known figure in the European photographic and imaging industry, having worked for Kodak for 10 years and Fujifilm for 18 years - where he was both Group Divisional Director of Fujifilm UK, and Head of European Strategic Planning for Fujifilm Europe.

More recently, he has been running his own marketing consultancy business, Centric Consultants Ltd. He will take up his new position with Jessops with effect from late February.

The appointment comes as Jessops looks to build on a successful year in 2001, culminating in a 13% increase in like for like sales during the Christmas trading period.

Jessops' Chairman Tim Brookes said: 'I am delighted that Peter Samwell is to join the team here at Jessops. His experience in the industry will prove invaluable as the company continues to grow and build on its recent success.'

Derek Hine, Managing Director, added: 'Peter's remit will be wide ranging, covering many aspects including our processing business, and the development of our 'new tecno' and 'photozone@Jessops' concept stores.'
Peter Samwell said: 'I have been a strong admirer of what the Jessops team has achieved over the past five years. The company is now a true leader in all areas of the photographic market, not least in the huge growth area of digital photography.

'I look forward to using my experience to assist in the planning and direction of the company's future development, ensuring Jessops continues to meet its business objectives.'

Peter Samwell is 51-years old, and is married to Linda. Away from work, he enjoys the diverse hobbies of photography, cooking, scuba diving, and motoring.
