John has worked for The Press Association for nearly 15 years on assignments across the UK and Ireland. He has been to the last three Olympic Games for PA and now covers news and sport, predominantly in the Yorkshire region.

John's winning portfolio included pictures of the Queen Mother's funeral, a Countryside Alliance protest and gales and floods in Blackpool.

Commenting on the award, John Giles said, "I am honoured to receive this award from the British press industry. I have covered some memorable events over the past year and am delighted that my work has been acknowledged in this way."
