R. Cleveland Aaron is not only a photographer but he's an Olympus visionary - someone who can brilliantly showcase the capabilities of Olympus cameras and in Cleveland’s case, this means shooting B&W images with the Olympus Pen F and previously, the Olympus PEN E-P5.

Until 4 February at 6pm, you can view R. Cleveland Aaron's work at the Art Bermondsey Project Space in London where our events reporter, Stuart Fawcett, attended an event to meet the man himself and to take a look at his work.

Cleveland is truly a 'people person' so many of the people at the event had known him for many years, he even jokingly said he has a '20-year people club'. Yet, his open and friendly approach is why he also successfully runs photography training courses and photo walks – you can imagine meeting Cleveland once and thinking you have known him forever. Everyone at the event that knew him said super things about him and he took time for them all.

Cleveland initially inspired me as he said he did not favour a particular genre over another, and indeed is a very capable photographer across many areas from architecture and interiors to many advertising campaigns for well-known brands. What is clear is that he can produce a wide range of images for many different purposes. He shares a studio space with his friend Marco of Casadofotografia and another friend was Adelle of Praxis limited who was the printer for the images on display. This exhibition is truly also a celebration of friendship.

Cleveland describes his work as 'shapes and light' and that only really comes across when you start to look at a number of the images. Initially, you look for the subject in the photo and then you realise that the subject you're looking for / at might not actually be the main subject of the photo at all. In fact, it's more than that, it's the photo as a whole you need to really look at.

Each image is engaging but you almost need to stand back and then look again at the whole image before you explore the detail. For me, this is a new way to look at an image and it may be for you, too.

I hope that the small collage of images above do show the shapes and light components of the images but you really should visit the exhibition, as well as Cleveland’s website, to really enjoy these black and white images fully.

There is much more to discover in these photos... I’m sure it’s not just the neat filters in the PEN camera, but I can’t yet put my finger on it.
