The M.A.D.Gallery is currently showcasing nine visionary images of ‘flying’ cars from the series 'Air Drive' by French photographer Renaud Marion.

In this retro-futuristic series, the 39-year-old photographer depicts his childhood dreams of futuristic transportation but he's given the collection a unique twist; turning iconic, classic cars into beautiful hovercraft style vehicles.

As a child growing up in the 1980s, Marion thought that by the year 2000 everyone would be piloting flying cars and even though this is yet to happen, Marion has made his childhood dream a reality in his Air Drive series.

M.A.D.Gallery say: "The images that emerge are a throwback blend of retro style with futuristic imaginings. Iconic cars from the glory days of automobile production are transformed into airborne transport, catapulting their vintage design into a visionary age."

Marion chose classic cars as they most closely resemble his childhood idea of what a flying car should look like. When it came to locations, seeking out areas where recognisable buildings couldn't be found was important. Marion said: "I looked for architecture dating from the 1970s; for me that’s retro-futuristic. The buildings had to be imposing, massive and graphic."

Once the images were captured, the tyres and wheel wells were removed from the cars to achieve the look of a 'flying' car during post production and the cars were then merged onto different backgrounds.
