Sieve

Gear:
  • A zoom's useful as can play around with focal lengths but switch to a macro lens when you want to crop in
  • Tripod
  • Reflector - simple piece of silver foil from your draw will work
  • Window – for light
  • Plain background
Technique:
Your kitchen, if you have plenty of light in it, is the perfect place to set up your work station. Anything can be laid on the work surface to act as a background or if you have an interesting patterned work surface, try working on that. Metal sinks, particularly if you tweak the white balance to give the image a blue cast, can add an extra bit of interest to the shot.

A little cloud coverage can diffuse the light quite nicely but if it's a particularly dull day make sure you use a tripod so you can use slower shutter speeds and get a piece of silver foil out of your cupboard to bounce a little extra light into the shot.
