Photography Monthly magazine Review: Photography MonthlyPhotography Monthly is a new title to hit the news stands.

Edited by ex Practical Photography technical guru Dan Lezano, the new magazine promises a 'fresh approach to photography'
It's a 100 page issue with roughly 75% given to editorial and a competitive price of 2.80.
The printing is on a matt paper with a glossy eight page pull out section. Unlike some magazines in the past, the pull out is truly pull out and leaves the 100 pages intact. The first issue's pull out is a beginner's guide to landscapes written by ePHOTOzine contributor Lee Frost. It has lots of tips and techniques to help you take better pictures in all kinds of weather.

Photography Monthly magazine Review: Photography monthlyAlso in the technique area is Judgement (experts opinions of reader's pictures given by Dan Lezano and Lee Frost), plus a look at projects from various photographers including Glamour photographer Alan Strutt and celeb snapper Andy Earl, and once again Lee Frost!
There's a really nice Help section that's the best designed version I've seen for a troubleshooting section and a news section which, in the first issue, was pretty weak in content.
There are two competitions that offer a total of 7,700 worth of Canon and Mamiya prizes and an in depth interview with Andy Earl who's shot every pop star from Mick Jagger to Geri Halliwell.
The equipment section has a comparison test of the Canon EOS 30 and Nikon F80, plus a group test of 35mm and APS compacts and several individual reviews of photo gear. The balance of the first issue is more towards traditional photographers than digital and covers the same territory as Practical Photography.
Although I don't feel the first issue lives up to its promise of a fresh approach, it is Dan's first issue as an Editor and he will no doubt develop the magazine, with the help of design editor, Steven Handley. It's certainly no worse than any of the magazines out on the newsstand and is well worth 2.80.
