Photokina - World of Imaging, are gearing up for another big photography show in Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany, which is taking place from 16-21 September 2014.
This is the 60th year Photokina has run and it is the World's largest and leading photographic trade fair, catering for trade, professional photographers, and consumers.
The last Photokina event, where we were reporting in 2012
, featured 185,000 visitors from 166 countries, which is a growth on previous years. The number of trade visitors was 48%, of which 42% came from abroad. Already, at this early stage, roughly 80% of the area is already booked for 2014, and they are expecting 1000 exhibiting companies from roughly 40 countries.
The usual suspects will be there, including all the big manufacturers such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, Ricoh Pentax, Samsung, as well as lens companies including Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, Carl Zeiss and more.
This year there is a specific area dedicated to action cameras, with companies including GoPro, and Blackmagic design in attendance. There is also an additional emphasis on video-creation, as well as connected photo sharing.
Photokina communities are setup to be a central meeting point, with workshops, photography shoots, competitions, lectures, seminars and panel discussions.
Photokina will feature numerous high-quality photographic exhibitions from photo-documentation via photo design and photo journalism as well as photo art. Cologne will also be taking part in the Photokina photography month, where the city of Cologne will be encouraged to get involved in photography, with workshops, photo shoots and exhibitions running.
