A beautifully sharp image of a hawfinch perched upright on a branch has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade.
| ePHOTOzineAn image of a hawfinch perched on a log in perfect profile has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade this week. Every week, we choose an image that we think stands out from the crowd, and the photographer wins a 64GB MicroSD card with SD adapter from Samsung.
The image was taken by ePHOTOzine member lord_macedo and is titled 'Hawfinch (Coccothraustes Coccothraustes)'. Here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade this week:
This is a pin-sharp image of a beautiful specimen of a hawfinch in profile. The rule of thirds has been used well to frame the image, and there's just a hint of greenery to the bottom right of the photo, adding a dash of colour.
The background is nicely blurred with earthy tones, helping the subtle mustard yellow of the bird's head to stand out. The powerful bill and the intricate black markings on the bird around the eye and the wing make it almost look like a superhero. The bird is standing proud on its perch, and they don't stay still for long, so this is a really well-timed capture.
You can see all the winners of the Photo of the Week accolade in the POTW gallery. Please note that there may be a delay in sending cards out due to the current situation with covid-19.
