Lancaster and crew

A poignant black and white silhouetted image of a Lancaster bomber and soldiers has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade this week.

The image, entitled 'Lancaster and Crew' by ePz member rontear has been chosen by the team this week and here's why it caught our eye:

This is a fantastic black and white image that's brought to life by the clouds in the background adding texture and atmosphere. The magnificent Lancaster bomber is an awe-inspiring structure that gives a sense of scale to the image, with the soldiers adding detail below it.

Backlighting has been used really well to bring out the shape of the plane and the shutter speed used is just right to allow some movement in the fog around the plane but to keep the plane itself and the people stood around it sharp.

The rule of thirds has been used well here to ensure lots of space for us to marvel at the sky and cut out the less interesting tarmac below. A really iconic capture.

Photo of the Week winners currently receive a 32GB MicroSDHC card with SD adapter courtesy of Samsung. See all the images that have received the accolade in the POTW gallery
