Here's why the team chose 'blackbird dream' as our standout image this week: "Anyone who has seen the brilliant thriller that is Black Swan will instantly see the connection between this portrait and the film. Draped over a dressing table, the female in the photograph could be an actress or indeed a dancer with her feathery, dark outfit and vintage-inspired make-up leaving you wondering if she's just stepped off stage. Is she tired of her profession or is she simply contemplating life? These are just some of the questions one asks when admiring the image that's also compositionally pleasing. Well done cristinavenedict, it's a lovely example of fine art portraiture that we're very happy to award POTW."
