REZA HIPA Talk 2015

Reza Deghati, humanitarian and world-famous photojounalist, has worked for The National Geographic amongst many other publications, and uses his own money and photographic skills to encourage photography, to improve life for others. REZA was voted one of the top 10 photographers in the world, by Leica, and has auctioned off his own Leica camera in order to fund aid work.

A project in famine stuck Africa involved him training up local photographers in refugee camps to photograph 10,000 children split from their parents by war. Photo exhibitions in each of the camps then helped reunite 3500 children with their families.

Reza Deghait, or simply REZA, believes that photography and photojounalism can help improve the human race, through understanding, and documenting the World around us.

REZA is the author of twenty-nine books, a multiple prize-winner throughout his career, a Fellow of the National Geographic Society and Senior Fellow of the Ashoka Foundation. REZA was also awarded the World Press Photo award, the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, the Lucy Award, the Medal of Honor from the University of Missouri and the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the American University of Paris. Furthermore, REZA was awarded the medal of Chevalier in the French National Order of Merit.

He has given cameras to kids in refugee camps, to help them document their life, as well as creating a Children's Eyes On Earth Contest in 2012. The winnners can be viewed below:

The talk by REZA, about how simply and beautifully children see the world, documenting life as it happens, without pretense reminds us of the power of photography. The ability to speak from the heart through photography is the greatest form of art in photography. REZA also talked about how the use of photography in conflict, turmoil, and difficult situations, can be used for the benefit of those in need, and particularly impressed on us how it gave the children in the refugee camps the feeling that someone cared about their life.

H.E.Ali-Bin-Thalith-HIPA

Commenting on 'The Power of Photography for Humanity', the Secretary General of HIPA, His Excellency Ali bin Thalith said: "It is with the utmost honour that we welcome REZA to Dubai for his powerful lecture. REZA is a unique personality who has affected many people all around the world with his humanitarian and photographic work; something we feel is very similar to what HIPA stands for. Over the last two years, HIPA has undertaken various initiatives where we aim to improve the lives of others through photography, this is something that REZA has been doing for decades and he is an inspiration to everyone in that regard."
